Job Description

Marlborough Lines Limited is seeking a diligent and dedicated Faultsperson to join our Fault response team, reporting to the Control Room Manager and part of the wider Network team. If you enjoy being a first responder and working in a role where one day is different to the next, then a Faultsperson role fits the bill. 

This role involves:

  • Being available for first or second call 24 hours per day for approximately 1 week in 4.
  • Taking calls from the Call Centre and directing other Fault personnel both during and outside normal working hours when acting as first call Faultsperson.
  • Installation and removal of load monitoring equipment.
  • Fault location within the network and carrying out of minor repairs to lines and cables where assistance is not required.
  • Carrying out switching including fuses, air break switches, and all types of substation switchgear.
  • Operation of Blenheim’s Transpower Substation under the direction of the Stoke Control Centre or South Island Control Centre at Islington.
  • Assisting with line construction and maintenance work as required.
  • Ensuring that the fault vehicle is fully stocked and maintained consistent with Marlborough Lines standards.
  • Investigating voltage complaints.
  • Service disconnections/reconnections and meter readings.
  • Customer Advisory regarding safety matters.
  • Ensuring that staff provide written reports as necessary to allow the fault service to function.
  • When not on First Call roster, carry out other tasks as directed.
  • Being fully conversant with the requirements of the Marlborough Lines “Network Access and Outage Management” procedure.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the Marlborough Lines electrical system with causes and effects of problems experienced by customers. 
  • Being familiar with all relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practise and other statutory requirements.

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • Your Full driver’s license
  • Current Practicing Licence as either an Electrician, or a Line Mechanic, with proven job knowledge and technical ability to carry out the work to appropriate safety and quality standards.
  • An excellent understanding of industry safety rules and a commitment to safety.
  • To be fit and healthy.
  • The ability to work unsupervised.
  • A willingness for extra training and to accept change.
  • A clean and tidy appearance.
  • The ability to set priorities and meet target times.
  • Great communication at all levels (written and verbal), and to accurately and systematically record data.
  • Good team member skills.
  • Innovation and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills
  • The ability to coordinate and supervise other staff in fault location and restoration.
  • Good customer and public relations skills including internal customers
