Job Description
We are looking for a qualified Line Mechanic to join our team at Marlborough Lines Limited, based at the Taylor Pass Depot within the Field Services department. This is a permanent, full-time position that offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and operation of our electrical distribution network. As a Line Mechanic, your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out installation, maintenance, and repair work on overhead and underground lines
Performing routine inspections and testing of electrical equipment
Responding to faults and breakdowns in a timely manner to ensure minimal disruption to power supply
Operating and maintaining specialized vehicles and equipment used in line work
Adhering to strict safety protocols and ensuring compliance with industry regulations
Collaborating with other team members to complete projects efficiently and effectively
Providing support during emergency call-outs as part of the after-hours roster
The ideal candidate will possess:
A recognised Line Mechanic qualification or relevant trade certification
Demonstrated experience in electrical line work within the utility or construction industry
An understanding of safe working practices and a commitment to promoting a culture of health and safety in the workplace
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team in challenging outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
A valid driver's licence (Class 4 or higher) with a proven track record of driving heavy vehicles safely
Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach when interacting with internal stakeholders and members of the public

Desired Skills and Experience
Qualified Line Mechanic with relevant electrical qualifications and EWRB registration
Proven experience in overhead line construction and maintenance
Demonstrated ability to work safely at heights and in varying weather conditions
Familiarity with industry regulations and best practices
Experience working with live lines and distribution networks
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Full, clean driving licence with the ability to operate heavy vehicles
